Laser

Laser hair removal, in Kamloops.

Lasting hair reduction on the face and body, using the Nubody HR laser. It is the treatment people travel across Kamloops for, and the one I am asked about most.

How it works

It works at the root, not the surface

The laser emits light that is drawn to the pigment in your hair follicle. It targets that dark pigment to disable the hair at the root, which is why it behaves differently from shaving: instead of cutting the hair at the surface, it works at the base of the follicle, so regrowth comes back thinner and sparser each round rather than straight back.

Why it takes a series

Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only reaches a follicle while that hair is actively growing. At any one moment only a portion of the hair in an area is in that phase, which is why one session cannot catch all of it. I generally recommend six to eight treatments spaced about six weeks apart, so each session meets a new group of follicles as they come through.

Most people see fewer hairs in the treated area immediately after the first session, and after a full series the result can be permanent.

Where I can treat

Face and body both, including the areas people usually ask about last: legs, underarms, the bikini area, chest, back, hands and feet. We can work through several areas in the same appointment.

Everything happens in one room, with the same person operating the laser every time. No rotating technicians, and nobody else waiting on the appointment behind you.

The appointment

Before, during and after

There is very little to organise around this one, but the small things below make a real difference to how well it works.

Before your appointment

Shave the area a day before, so the hair is short but the pigment is still visible in the follicle. Come without makeup or cream on the area, or I will take it off before we begin. Avoid tanning and sun exposure in the weeks beforehand.

During the session

Most people describe it as a tiny elastic band snapping against the skin. I take every measure to keep you comfortable through the treatment, and we go at whatever pace suits you. How long it takes depends entirely on how much area we are covering.

Afterwards

There is no recovery and no downtime, so you can go straight back to your day. Keep the area out of direct sun, and skip very hot showers and saunas for a day or so while the skin settles.
