Polishing

Microdermabrasion, in Kamloops.

Deep exfoliation with a diamond tipped head that polishes the skin rather than scratching it. It is gentle enough that every skin type can have it, and it is built into most of my facials as well.

How it works

Polishing, not scratching

Microdermabrasion is a deep exfoliation. It lifts away the tired surface layer so the fresher skin underneath can come through, and it does that mechanically rather than with acids. It is the treatment I reach for most often when skin looks dull, congested or rough to the touch.

A diamond tip, not crystals

Mine is a diamond tipped system, which polishes the skin rather than scratching it the way the older crystal wands did. The head is precise and follows the contours of your face, so it is both gentler and more effective, and there is no aluminum oxide dust involved.

Why it matters more as you get older

Your skin renews itself roughly every twenty eight days, and that renewal slows as you get older. Deep exfoliation stimulates and regulates it, which is why this treatment is planned as a series rather than as a single visit.

What it helps with

Blackheads, oily or dull skin, dry patches, uneven tone, fine lines, enlarged and clogged pores, mild acne scarring, sun damage and coarse texture. All skin types can have it.

Lymphatic facial massage is part of the treatment, not something extra tacked on the end. Most people find the appointment genuinely relaxing.

The appointment

How it feels, and how often

This one is progressive rather than aggressive, so it is planned as a rhythm rather than a one off. Here is what that actually looks like.

During the session

Most people describe it as fine sandpaper, or a cat’s tongue. Nothing about it is harsh, and we go at whatever pace suits you. The lymphatic facial massage is worked into the same appointment.

How often

Because it works progressively, it does its best work as a series. I usually recommend once a week for six weeks, and then maintenance every four to six weeks once your skin is where you want it.

As part of a facial

It is also built into most of my facials, so you may well have had it already without booking it by name. If a longer, fuller appointment is what you are after, we can go that way instead.

Let me look at your skin first

Every skin type can have microdermabrasion, but the right rhythm for you depends on what your skin is doing right now and what else it needs. Tell me how to reach you and what is bothering you, and we will work out where to start.

  • A proper look at your skin, in person
  • An honest plan, in the order that makes sense
  • You decide what, if anything, comes next
